- Tim Kuhn will show how to extract census data from the API using Power Query in Microsoft Excel
- Randy Pullen from Chattanooga Regional Planning will demo his geoprocessing tool which adds detailed tract-level American Community Survey data directly to ArcGIS Pro maps.
- Aubrey Weiland from Knoxville-Knox County Planning will show the agency’s API-driven Census Data Explorer interface.
Event 2: Population Estimates 101

The Census Bureau’s population estimates are used in federal funding allocations, as survey controls, as denominators for economic indicators and vital rates. The annual release cycle of this data provides some of the most important indicators for measuring recent population and demographic changes in our state.
This webinar will provide an overview of a variety of topics related to estimates production, including the cohort-component method, what is a vintage, how boundary changes are applied, and much more. It also will show how Tennessee’s state and local data are incorporated into the annual estimates of population for the state, counties and municipalities.
