2020 Census Tennessee Update

2020 Census Data Product Delays Continue

Data users across Tennessee anxiously await results of the 2020 Census after an extended counting phase and processing issues pushed the release date back several times.

More definitive release information is now available following the announcement that apportionment counts are scheduled for release on Friday, April 30. These counts include state-level totals used for the allocation of congressional seats.

Redistricting Data Update

Three other important updates related to the P.L. 94-171 Redistricting Data also became available:

  • Redistricting Data Release:  Census Bureau staff said during a recent webinar that sub-state redistricting data would not be available prior to July 30, 2021 and later added that they would be available not later than September 30, 2021.
  • Citizen Voting Age Population:  Plans to release data about the number of U.S. citizens and the immigration status have been scrapped following a January 20, 2021 Executive Order.
  • Geographic Products:  Mark your calendars for the February 9, 2021 release of the 2020 Census P.L. 94-171 Geographic Support Products. These include new statistical boundaries (including tracts) that will be used over the next decade.
