According to 2018 census data, there were over 435,000 veterans living in Tennessee comprising about 8.5% of the state’s population. Data about this group are collected through a variety of U.S. Census Bureau surveys such as the American Community Survey and the Annual Business Survey. Overview
Subject tables present a broad overview about the state’s veterans, including both estimates and percentages of population. Data about age, period served, educational attainment, income and employment are included.
Veteran-Owned Businesses
The Annual Business Survey (ABS) provides information about the characteristics of business owners, such as their veteran status. A 2018 survey released in 2020 showed that about 7,800 businesses in the state were owned by veterans.

Collapsed Tables
In smaller counties or when estimates for smaller population groups become statistically unreliable, collapsed tables are provided. They include fewer age breakdowns about veterans than the detailed tables, but are provided as an alternative to suppressing the data entirely for these areas.
